A burr grinder matters more to the taste of home coffee than most brewers do, because it decides how even the grounds are. The six electric grinders below cover the main decisions: conical or flat burrs, filter-only or espresso-capable, and a hopper you fill once a week or a single-dose bin you fill for each cup.
Every specification on this page comes from the manufacturer’s own product page, checked on 26 October 2026. We have not used these products ourselves, so the picks are based on published specifications only.

- Burr type, size and material published by the maker.
- Clear statement of which brew methods it is designed for, including whether it handles espresso.
- Capacity and warranty listed.
- A spread of uses: filter-only, all-round and espresso-focused.

1. Baratza Encore: a simple first grinder for filter coffee
Baratza positions the Encore as a first step for filter coffee, from set-and-forget drip to dialed-in pour-over. It uses a 40 mm conical steel M3 burr turning at 550 RPM with no load, a 300 g bean hopper and a 120 g grounds bin. Baratza lists its grind speed as 1.3 g per second at setting 10 and 2.2 g per second at setting 30.
- Power 70W; size 13 x 15 x 34 cm (W x D x H) (Baratza).
- Designed in Seattle; manufactured and assembled in Taiwan.
Pros: big hopper and bin for daily drip; simple manual dosing.
Cons: not designed for espresso; 1-year warranty.

2. Baratza Encore ESP: for entry-level espresso plus filter
The Encore ESP keeps the Encore’s body, motor and capacities but switches to the M2 conical burr in a quick-release mount and adds a dosing cup. Baratza says it delivers the grind resolution needed for espresso, adjusted by turning the hopper.
- 550 RPM no-load burr speed; grind speed 1.3 to 2.2 g per second at settings 10 and 30 (Baratza).
- Quick-release burr mount for cleaning.
Pros: espresso-capable for a compact grinder; dosing cup included; quick-release burr.
Cons: manual dosing only, no timer; 1-year warranty.

3. Baratza Virtuoso+: for a timer and repeatable doses
The Virtuoso+ adds a digital timer you can set to a tenth of a second, so each dose comes out the same without weighing beans every time. It uses the M2 conical burr, and Baratza lists a slightly faster grind than the Encore at setting 30: 2.4 g per second.
- 550 RPM no-load burr speed; 300 g hopper and 120 g bin; threaded burr mount (Baratza).
Pros: timed dosing; same compact footprint as the Encore.
Cons: Baratza’s page does not describe it as an espresso grinder; 1-year warranty.

- Also sold with pre-installed SSP MP brew burrs.

Timemore says the 78 mm burrs have a 48.5% larger grinding surface than standard 64 mm burrs, and their titanium-based Red Speed coating extends burr life to over 6,000 kg of coffee. It has variable RPM control, a rotary knocker and a magnetic catch cup.
- Builds on Timemore’s 078S with SSP-designed burrs (Timemore).
Pros: largest burrs here; variable speed to tune taste; long-life coated burrs.
